1/11/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski @ 10:00 P.M.

In the Body of the Orig. Post below, we talk about the "Size and Scope"
of the Grooming List and we think this is the key to understanding
the strategy Tremblant Mountain Crews may be using.

There were 50(*) Open Trails today, however there are 63 Trails
on the Grooming list. It is our theory that these Groomed Trails represent
the principle watershed necessary to minimize harm from warm 'n wet
exposure. Compacting surfaces over a base that's been Super Cold and
very dense gets the ambient cold being conducted upward. If the end result
was "Icy", that would still be a lot better than "Gone".

As we've discussed before, Mountain Crews begin restoring great terrain
overnight, so you can look forward to finding that tomorrow, on top of
which you should also find some Sunshine too.

Bring Your Sharp Tremblant Edges... They'll be your best friends tomorrow...

Spring-like Ski Conditions, Firm in morning, softer in Aft., especially
if the Sun comes out!

No idea what Trail Count may be... somewhere between 25 - 50,
if Soleil Open 60-65 ?????

You Don't Need Goggles... It's Warm Enough To Rain.

You Just Need To SEE!!!!

More to follow.

-------------- 6:57 A.M. Orig. Post --------------------

50(*) Open Trails on South and North Sides of Tremblant.

A Classic Eastern North American "January Thaw".

What ever is Open Should Be Excellent, Wall To Wall, Virtually
100% Coverage, "Spring" Skiing!

In Particular... The Next 2 or 3 Afternoons should be really, really fine
Spring Skiing after the Overnight Low Temps(that should be Sub-Zero
at Summit Levels... At Least), soften all Open surfaces up at Mid-Day.

AND... You Do Not Need To Worry About Being "COLD".

As Long A s You Are Dry, "Warm" Is No Problem.

Last Eve., we theorized today might see a similar Open number
as yesterday @ 65, however a decision has been made to take Soleil
off-line today.

This is a strategic Trail Preservation decision that will benefit
Ski/Board guests with an "ASAP" Re-Opening that reduces BOTH:

A) Loss of Terrain, as well as...

B) Delays in re-opening after the forecasted freezing rain,
followed by a big bunch of regular rain, followed by a hard freeze.

We Support Mountain Operations in their decisions even if it means
temporary Open Trail reductions because they have extensive
survey and forecasting information that optimizes resources.
Our experience shows they are about 99% accurate, for which we
have great respect.

What we like to see in these circumstances is the size and scope
of the Grooming list as you'll be able to see below shortly.

Packing the base which still has an immense, deep frost under it,
is probably the best defence possible to facilitate shedding rain water.

All those many nights at -30's and -20's has rendered a very stable
base that we've seen time and again shed water off to the sides or below,
where it gets absorbed or runs off into the bush.

Therefore:

Beautiful, Full Coverage, "Spring" Skiing and Boarding on everything Open...

...until temps drop back down.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
