Good Morning GMT!
Good Night California!
Snow, Snow and then a bunch more Snow…. all day long….
Today was a predictably well attended Saturday.
The promise of a very mild -7 C after all week @ -20 Some-odd C
together with a major Snowfall Event brought all those who had
been hiding from the temps out en-mass.
Below: Arriving at Either South or North Base you quickly realized
that while there might be great speed on the slopes, the speed
that you got to the slopes was going to be a bit longer than normal.
The Snowfall was quite steady for the most part, however, there were
Squall-like heavier concentrations that seemed to move across the
Mountain on a regular basis.
Above: Once at the Summit while the weekend numbers were obvious, as soon as
you began to descend, it was as if the Mountain swallowed them all up and
suddenly it was possible to find oneself all alone and frequently, not another
sole in sight.
Below: Lowell Thomas Haut, Upper, Powder Lines All Day In This Sector
and no one else around.
T360 Lowell Thomas Trail Side Proof Of Snow:
Any Week that goes by like this week makes any memories
of a “January Thaw” seem like distant past history of months ago.
Any Day like this keeps us where the Snow is, and that was
mostly North where the “Fill In” rate of Accumulation meant that
by “Last Run”, there were still Powder lines to be found on the sides of
many Trails like this Marie-Clade Asselin sample below.
It was still snowing hard until 8-9:00 P.M. in St Jovite, so it will be
very interesting to see the Mountain first thing in the morning, but
rest assured that there will be something for everyone. However,
Tomorrow’s conditions may be biased towards those with Expert
skills who enjoy abundant and frequently deeply drifted deposits
of new, fresh Snow.
A Few Flurries Tonight, Low temp at -24C, Mainly Sunny tomorrow
with daytime high @ -18 C, so Bundle Back Up, it’ll be Chilly first thing.
---------------- 9:30 A.M. Update ---------------
It’s Snowing like Crazzzy! Squall-like bands of intense Snowfall
are occurring at Tremblant right now. Snow forecast for all day.
------------ 5:59 A.M. Orig. Post ---------------
79(*) Open Trails …. so far unconfirmed, as the appropriately
Dated, Time-stamped data has not been posted for today’s listings so far.
{(**),See Notes Below}
Considering the Amount of Fresh Snow fallen(10-12 CM’s), here in St.Jovite,
one could only hope it would mean an Increase in the Open Trails…
Considering all the Snowmaking this week past, one could hope
that would mean an Increase in Open Trails too.
Considering the level of Competition for discretionary Ski/Board
Ticket Sales within the local/regional Montreal/Ottawa/Laurentian,
Townships etc., we think no one will be more motivated to
demonstrate Value than Tremblant by offering the most possible
Open Terrain.
Add up these factors and regardless of the specifics, if anything, we
think it’s a pretty safe bet that the Open Trail Number will rise this morning.
------------------ 10:30 A.M. Update ---------------
The Official Snow Report was released with 78(*) Open Trails, so
evidently we were wrong about any increases in Open Trails today.
Sorry about that.
The point still stands that no one is more motivated to Open Terrain
than Tremblant, so at some point all the fabulous new SNOW, Falling Right NOW,
plus all the new Snowmaking has to add up to more Open. The only question is
“When”, and we don’t think that can be too far off.
The possibility exists that additional, new Open Terrain may come on-line
during the day, so keep eyes peeled during explorations!
-----------------------------------------------------------
No doubt, yesterday was a Classic Tremblant Deep Winter Day!
We love every single one of them too, not only is the Skiing extraordinarily
fine, but every day the frost is more deeply embedded into the Mountain now,
is a day of better sustained conditions towards the balance of the Season.
From Yesterday’s Minus 30 C to this mornings Minus 11 C, Tremblant
Guests that made it out for First Tracks yesterday will think they’ve
arrived at the Beach with a 20 degree C rise today. What A relief!
If there’s a wee kicker in today’s weather, that would be the wind.
Strong Southerly winds could mean very Gusty Summit conditions
and in a worst case scenario, even lift interruptions... if Docking either
at Summit or Base becomes unstable. At this stage we can only consider
possibilities as we’re still too early to tell what the actual will be.
Yesterday Off-Loading From Soleil Quad at Summit.
The BIG, BIG difference Today… much, much warmer temps.
(**)The Tremblant.ca Official Snow Report has been going through an evolutionary
development this season and the presentation format changed from previous.
Regular readers here will recognize that the Downloadable PDF Trail/Lift/Status
which was around for many years was no longer available so we adapted
by using assembled screenshots to replicate a similar Archival Format.
Within the last day, a new PDF file has been published, however there is
still some work necessary and it does not yet have the Date attached or
other basic info. such as Lift Hours/Open Status, so it will be interesting
to see if can become the comprehensive single Data source that it was
for preceding seasons.
On that New PDF file this morning, it shows 82 out of 95 Trails Officially
Open, however, as mentioned, without an equally Official Date/Time Stamp
present, the data remains unconfirmed by minimal conventional standards.
Sample Copy Of New Format, Un-Dated PDF File,
as it appears this morning:
Please Note: We need to be patient during the development
of the changing format presentation. Software refinement
can often take considerable time to be fine-tuned or reach
optimal utility, and the people doing this chore also have added
complexity with Two Languages as well as Intrawest Corporate
interests to deal with. We appreciate all their efforts and even though
we miss the old PDF which was a superb one source document, we
realize that times and needs change.
In the Mean-Time…
You can go out and do this all day, Today at Tremblant!

There’s a lot of New, Fresh Snow
(as much as 15 CM’s or 6 inches) so far today.
More is Forecast and it’s all over an already Outstanding Base
carried onward from yesterday.
Thanks for your visit! More, later in Apres Ski.
