Happy to report Soleil Sector Back On-Line.
We love the Dip’s ’n Dive’s ’n Banked Turns of Toboggan’s
Roller Coaster Topography! From Summit To Base, this
Trade-Mark Tremblant Trail is not only a Ton of Fun, but
it’s a great place to focus on Technique with it’s typically
immaculate Groomed Surfaces.
We also use Toboggan as one of our “Canaries In The Coal Mine”, indicators
of the entire Sectors Conditions Status because in the course of it’s twists
and turns it has a very wide range of directional variation that expose it to
the effects of Sun, Wind, Snowfall and Elevation over Grooming and Traffic
patterns. All theses factors can combine to create unique portions of surface
differences that can be useful in understanding conditions on a larger scale.
For Near Term Tremblant Trip Planers, Around the Corner, Across the “Pond”
for our U.K. Fans, or Around The World for Global Tremblant Guests…. the
big story is the massive amount of Snow we’ve gotten in the past 10 days
or so that is truly impressive.
Anytime you can take a pic. like this, right beside a Groomed, Open
Trail within a few days of a January Thaw, Freezing Rain Event…
…You Know You’re Good To Go!
Ptit.Bonheur.Trail.Side.Powder.Drift.Line.c.jpg Above: All this Snow retained so nicely less than 3 metres from the side of
the trail was Packed/Groomed into the trail immediately adjacent, in this
case, P’tit Bonheur.
If you are arriving soon, we think you are going to be very well pleased
with the abundance of Fine, Dry, Light Natural Snow that is the single
most important component of the top layers of Groomed Base here at
Tremblant now.
What we have is excellent, High Performance, “Squeaky” Cold Formed Snow
that has been very carefully compressed over repeated Daily Grooming Cycles
and rendered into a top surface layer that holds an Edge-Set remarkably well
on virtually all of the Open Groomed Terrain.
The Surfaces are Firm enough to hold Very High Speed Carving, yet Soft
enough to be “Forgiving” for Beginners and Intermediates working on
Skills Development.
Tremblant always has a wide variety of finely prepared Terrain for all
Skill Levels. What’s happening now is that we are approaching the
fullness of Seasonal Maturity with a very deep accumulated base, so
all the New Snow is adding primarily Quality to the Coverage, as well
as Hopefully facilitating the remaining smaller Quantity necessary to
reach the Ultimate Goal of 100%, Fully Opened, 95/95 Trail Availability.
Today’s Weather Notes:
Temp’s at -18 C as the Lifts Open and rising through the day to
forecasted -11 C after lunch, all under overcast sky’s with a dash
of potential Snow Flurries thrown into the mix.
Winds Sou-West and may be bordering on strong, so the Summit
may see gusty flow from the Soleil Side moving across towards
the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair off-load zone.
The winds may swing around to the West this afternoon which
would put them coming right up Taschereau/Kandahar.
Back down to -19 C overnight.
Near Term Future Weather Forecast Notes:
Basically, what’s happening in-so-far-as the East Coast of North America,
is that a depression in the “Jet Stream” aloft has created a dip in cold arctic
airflow as far south as Florida.
Morning Snow on the Lawns in The Great State of Mississippi, Deep South,
U.S.A. is uncommon to say the least, but there it is. In the mean-time, a
combination of Eastbound Pacific Coast air and a Gulf of Mexico
“Texas Low” are getting together and will push the Arctic Air North-East
over the next couple of days bringing much milder temps, currently
projected to be at Daytime -3C for both Saturday and Sunday here at Tremblant.
So Close to Freezing… much of the region South of here could see a very nasty
mix of sleety, snowy, rainy whatever, but at this point…
Thank Goodness For North! … as Tremblant looks like it will stay Sub-Zero
throughout, according to current Weather models.
